This Newry based artist is self taught, and despite his immediately recognizeable style which is now copied across Ireland, he maintains that he is still developing his art, they can steal my landscapes and colours but they cant steal my Irish heart he says. Curran is a former antique-dealer who has exhibited in galleries and shows across Ireland and the USA. He is concidered one of the most talented folk painters of the times. Oliver's paintings reflect his vision of Irish landscape and history. Many of his works focus on the historical tension's, Despite the serious undercurrent of his work, many of Oliver's paintings are very humorous.
The "Blue" paintings have become Oliver's trademark and are now very collectable pieces. His works are in private collections in Ireland, the UK, Holland and the USA. 2001 saw his first every image appear in the Gallaher Room's Dublin. His painting "The Village Eviction" was to be found exhibited in the R.H.A Dublin In 2001. On a major tour of the U.S.A also IN 2001 he exhibited in Fitzpatricks Manhattan, Jurys Hotel Washington, The Franklin Center Philadelphia,The Banshee Scranton, Donegal Square Bethlehem, and other venues. He was short listed for as a book illustrations in London, his images are now on 3 book covers. He currently paints on site at the Newry studio.
