The McGilloway Gallery was opened in 1984 by Ken McGilloway. It`s aims were to show the very best in contemporary Irish art, both traditional and modern, and equally important, to promote and encourage young emerging artists and allow them the opportunity of having their work shown commercially.
The Gallery is located in the basement of one of Derry`s finest Georgian buildings and inside the city`s ancient walled area. Within a short time of opening the McGilloway Gallery had quickly established an excellent reputation for showing important work, so much so that it now represents over fifty major artists from throughout the island of Ireland.

The Paul Kane Gallery was established in 1997 -in its original venue in South William St.-to promote the work of contemporary Irish artists through a regular program of exhibitions, both in South William St. and elsewhere
As one of the original alternative spaces of the 90's The Paul Kane Gallery has shown the work of many of the foremost young Irish artists to have emerged over the last decade including Colin Crotty, Megan Eustace and Roisin McGuigan as well as more established artists such as Marc Reilly, Ben Reilly, Kathlyn O'Brien, Clifford Colley and Niall Naessens .
In it's new space at 6 Merrion Square, The Paul Kane Gallery continues as before but is widening its remit to include a selection of International Artists such as Tom Hammick and Jackie Nickerson.

Comments : |
Paintings in the gallery include oil, acrylic and watercolour by both established Irish artists and new local artists. The Prentice Gallery also sells Antiques clocks and furniture.
The atmosphere in The Prentice Gallery is very inviting, rooms with high ceilings, windows with real curtains, period fireplaces and the original tiled hallway setting off the pitched pine stairwell and stained glass landing window.
"People feel very comfortable coming into our Gallery." says Paul Prentice, the owner of The Prentice Gallery. "There is no pressure to buy and I believe that entering a house makes you feel relaxed, you can wander from room to room, view in peace, talk privately and enjoy a cup of coffee at Esthers Coffee House, located adjacent to the Gallery.
